My name is Deirdre Leowinata. I am many things, but most of all I am a storyteller. My goal is to create high quality visual media that is used to tell the world's most important stories in ways that make people want to listen. I have a background in science and communication, and I combine skills in photography, video, writing, and speaking, with knowledge of design and marketing principles to engage audiences. I am especially interested in the opportunities presented by the combination of the digital age, new media, and the various communities available to us via these platforms. I want to use these media as tools to change stereotypes and educate the public on topics that may otherwise be stagnant and easily ignored, especially the stories of science and conservation.
If you don't have much time, take a quick look at some stories below. If you do have some time to stick around, feel free to look around some more. I'm open to questions or comments, so feel free to reach out if you have something to talk about!
Please don’t make the mistake of thinking that Sciences and Arts are at odds with one another. That is a recent, stupid, and damaging idea. You don’t have to be unscientific to make beautiful art, or write beautiful things. If you need proof: Twain, Douglas Adams, Vonnegut, McEwan, Saigan, Shakespeare, Dickens, for a start…The arts and sciences need to work together to improve how knowledge is communicated.
